We made it! It's the last day of what has felt like the longest January in history. January's are a tough month (unless you live in the southern hemisphere, where it's summer)! January's during a pandemic and a lockdown are even harder!
Combine that with some extremely cold weather and lots of snow in our neck of the woods (with more to come this week), getting outside for some exercise and fresh air can be challenging! My walks this month are usually to he end of the block and back - it's just too cold for me, and for Winner! Did I mention it's been a long month (see image below for a graphic representation of January!)
It's times like this that we have to delve deep in to our toolkits to help maintain our mental health. We all have ways to keep positive during difficult times - exercise, laughing, dancing, reading, or napping. I love all of these, except napping - naps are elusive for me, but that's a topic for another blog.
In addition to these activities, I find practicing yoga helps to ground and centre myself particularly during challenging times. Sometimes it's a rigorous round of sun salutations, other times it's lots of deep breaths and slow mindful movement. No matter what my yoga practice looks like, having a beautiful yoga mat brings me joy and good vibes!
